MORRISTOWN, NJ — The Morristown community is grieving the loss of a retired police officer who dedicated over two decades of service to the area.

Officer Carl Cousin began his career with the Morristown Bureau of Police in 1980 and served with unwavering dedication for 27 years before making the decision to retire.

Police officials noted that, despite retiring, Cousin remained committed to serving the community. He chose to return to the bureau as a Class II Special Police Officer for the local school district, continuing his dedication to public safety until his final retirement in 2022.

“Officer Cousin’s commitment to the citizens of Morristown was exemplary, and his service will be remembered with deep respect and gratitude,” Morristown PBA Local 43 said on social media. “Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who had the honor of working alongside him.”

A wake for Cousin will be held on Aug. 20 at Calvary Baptist Church, located at 10 Martin Luther King Avenue in Morristown, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m., with the burial taking place at Evergreen Cemetery on Martin Luther King Avenue.

“One of the kindest men you would ever meet. Officer Carl Cousin, a great officer, but an even better person,” police said.
