According to documents filed with the court, Rick Harrison’s mother has taken legal action against her son about the assets of the family and ownership of the Las Vegas corporation that is featured on the long-running reality TV show.
According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Harrison’s attorneys have reportedly initiated a civil complaint on behalf of Harrison’s mother, Joanne Harrison, in the state court of Nevada.
Among the people who have been named as defendants in this case are Rick Harrison, the proprietor of the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop, as well as the company entities Harrison Properties and JoRich Properties.
According to statements made by Rick Harrison to a local newspaper, “The charges are baseless, and I believe individuals are taking advantage of my mother, who is 81 years old.”
According to the complaint for breach of contract, Joanne Harrison was married to the late Richard Harrison, also known as “The Old Man” on the show, for 58 years before he passed away. Richard Harrison played the role of The Old Man on the show.
During the time that she spent in the hospital in either 2000 or 2001, one of the couple’s three sons, Rick Harrison, is said to have exerted undue influence over his mother to induce her to transfer to him her 51% ownership interest in the pawn store.
In 2009, the business was the location of the filming of an episode of the History Channel starring the family’s grandson Richard Corey Harrison and a family friend named Austin “Chumlee” Russell.
According to the lawsuit, Joanne Harrison purchased Richard Harrison’s 49 percent stake in the pawn shop following his death in 2018. Richard Harrison passed away in 2018. But, Rick Harrison has not presented her with any proof that is particularly specific regarding the company’s financial transactions.
In addition, Joanne Harrison asserts that she has been unable to obtain an exact accounting of the more than $500,000 in cash and silver that her husband purportedly accumulated prior to the time of his passing, even though she has made numerous attempts to do so.
This lawsuit seeks specific damages, an accounting of assets, a court order prohibiting Rick Harrison from accessing funds belonging to Joanne Harrison, and “a constructive trust” over property owned by Joanne Harrison. Additionally, the lawsuit requests a court order to bar Rick Harrison from accessing funds belonging to Joanne Harrison.
