Agustín Paul, known as “El Pinky,” a 22-year-old with over 98,000 subscribers on his channel “Los Plebes de Barrancos,” gained fame for viral challenges and funny videos.

On January 10, the body of the renowned social media star was discovered in Culiacán City, northwest Mexico, with a fatal gunshot wound.

According to The Mirror, authorities suspect that a hitman linked to the powerful Sinaloa drugs cartel in Mexico is behind the brutal killing of the 22-year-old.

Disturbing footage circulated online shortly after his passing, showing him bruised and injured. In the video, which we have chosen not to show, El Pinky is interrogated by a Mexican cartel and accused of collaborating with a rival gang ‘La Mayiza’.

Just a day before his tragic murder, leaflets accusing El Pinky of laundering money for the rival cartel were dropped over Culiacán, Mexico, fueling suspicions of his alleged association.

Investigators are treating the case as a premeditated murder, with suspicions pointing towards the Sinaloa cartel, the powerful drug gang once led by the infamous drug lord El Chapo. They are believed to have been responsible for dropping the leaflets, Daily Star reported.

The use of headshots in the killing is often indicative of a premeditated act. Per the outlet, other prominent social media stars with huge followings were named as potential targets on leaflets that were dropped in Culiacán City on January 9.

Some of the names were YouTuber Markitos Toys, and ‘Dos Dias’ artist Peso Pluma.

Many fans have taken to the comment section of El Pinky’s final post, which reflected on 2024.

“We close the 2024 in a good way, this year there were stumbling blocks to as well achieve many things and still a lot is left to achieve labor and union,” he wrote. “I [stayed] away from bad people and met amazing people and with the same desire to grow.”

“The important thing of all is that not I gave up and I will never do it this year #2025 I want and I am very grateful to everyone I lived with. Cheer up plebes THIS YEAR WILL BE THE GOOD ONE,” he added.

Paul’s 41.8K followers have now shared their condolences, with one user writing (translated from Spanish to English): “No one deserves such a violent ending, rest in peace.”

A second added: “Rest in peace the compa pinky, a hug to heaven, and…a resignation for his family and friends.”

Our thoughts are with Paul’s family and friends.
