Jennifer Lopez files for divorce from Ben Affleck — court documents reveal four significant twists

Fans of the pair will say it’s been a long time coming, but Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are finally set to officially part ways.

Just two years on from their wedding in Las Vegas, the pair have spent much of the past few months at odds with one another, fueling speculation and doubt as to their future.

Affleck, readers may remember, moved out of the couple’s Beverly Hills mansion earlier this year, and though neither party spoke openly about the status of their marriage, the writing on the wall appeared to hint at divorce.

And so it has proven, with JLo reportedly now having submitted the necessary paperwork to the Los Angeles County Superior Court. It hasn’t escaped notice that the singer chose a rather symbolic date, too — exactly two years after the couple tied the knot.

TMZ report that the couple’s separation date is listed as April 26, 2024, while Lopez is said to have filed for the dissolution of their marriage on August 20 (yesterday), their second wedding anniversary.

Their up-and-down love story goes back two decades, to when Affleck and Lopez became one of the ‘IT’ couples of the celebrity world in the early 2000s. The pair were engaged but ultimately called off their wedding before it went ahead, later separating and finding new partners.

As such, it was with joy that fans of the pairing affectionately known as ‘Bennifer’ learned that Ben and Jen were getting back together.

The A-listers rekindled their romance in 2021 and were engaged in April of 2022. They tied the knot in Las Vegas later that year, but it wasn’t long before the gossip sheets began to publish rumors of trouble in paradise.

Indeed, during the past few months Affleck and Lopez’s separation has appeared a foregone conclusion. The speculation has come thick and fast, and with neither party actively denying the reports that their romance was on the rocks, it seemed only a matter of time before papers for their divorce were officially filed.

Reports state that JLo filed said papers herself, without a lawyer, while also waiving her right to spousal support and asking that the court deny Ben the same.

TMZ also claim that divorce documents outline that JLO and Ben did not sign any prenuptial agreement, meaning that any earnings or profits made during their nearly two years of marriage will be treated as community property
