Nicole Kidman is no stranger to sparking conversation, and her role in the upcoming movie Babygirl is already creating quite a buzz.
This time, it’s not just her acting talent that’s turning heads, but her steamy scenes with Harris Dickinson, who is 29 years younger than her.
Babygirl tells the story of Romy, a high-powered CEO played by Kidman, who risks both her career and family as she embarks on a sultry affair with her much younger intern, Samuel, portrayed by Dickinson.
In a sneak peek shared by Vanity Fair, one particular scene shows the two characters in a close, intimate moment in a pool. This snippet has ignited a fiery debate online, with fans taking to social media to share their thoughts on Kidman’s steamy performance.
One fan responded to the clip by jokingly warning: “GET MY BOYFRIEND AWAY FROM THAT OLD WOMAN!”
Another fan humorously pointed out what they see as a pattern in Kidman’s recent films: “I’m starting to see a trend in Kidman’s movies — affairs with younger men. I hope Keith Urban is still cool with it,” they quipped, referencing Kidman’s musician husband.
This pairing of older women with younger men in Hollywood has not gone unnoticed by viewers. “Old women with young guys is the latest trend in Hollywood,” observed one user.
Another added: “These roles must make older lady audiences feel good about themselves and bring young guys’ cougar fantasies to life.”
While some reactions were playful, others were more pointed. “It’s pretty interesting that she still plays roles like that at almost 60[sic],” one commenter remarked.
Another user speculated about Kidman’s personal life, adding: “Maybe Keith Urban is into it?”
Still, not everyone was critical — some fans embraced the passion of the scene, with one enthusiastically writing: “Omg Steamy!!!!”
Another fan chimed in with admiration: “I love Nicole too much! Best actress out there!”
Yet they couldn’t help but note: “But the fact that she is paired with all young guys lately is a bit cringey! 🙃”
Of course, the reminder of her past roles came up too, with one fan pleading, “Please no awkward scenes like the ones with Zac Efron!” referring to Kidman’s previous rom-com A Family Affair, where her on-screen chemistry with Efron left fans both shocked and amused.
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, the 57-year-old Kidman opened up about her experience working on Babygirl. She described the role as more exposing than anything she has done before.
“I’ve made some films that are pretty exposing, but not like this,” she revealed. Despite her long and distinguished career, Kidman admitted that Babygirl stood out for its raw intensity.
Interestingly, Kidman confessed she hasn’t seen the film yet and said she wasn’t sure about whether she would watch it at its upcoming premiere at the Venice International Film Festival. While the film is intended for a grand display, Kidman acknowledged she wasn’t sure if she had the courage to view it in a theater full of people.
When asked about filming the intimate scenes, Kidman said they were filmed in long takes by director Halina Reijn, were choreographed with the help of intimacy coordinators. These professionals worked closely with Kidman and Dickinson, 28, to ensure that each moment of pleasure and discomfort was portrayed authentically.
Even though Kidman was deeply committed to her role, she admitted that the emotional toll was significant and emotionally draining.
Despite the buzz and occasional criticism, Kidman remains a fearless force in Hollywood, unafraid to tackle daring and provocative roles that keep audiences talking.
