We’ve heard a lot about Tom Selleck recently and his career. He still stars on Blue Bloods, but he has been a television star for many decades. Perhaps you can even think back to Magnum PI and the work that he did on that show.
One of the things that we have heard recently about Selleck is issues he may be having with his health. It’s no surprise, considering some of the stunts that he did as a younger man.
Now that he is in his mid-70s, some of those stunts may be coming back to haunt him. This has led to concerns that he may be stepping down from his career and it could mean an end or at least a significant change to a very popular show.
Tom Selleck was born in 1945 and graduated from high school in 1962. He decided to stay home to save money after enrolling in a community college and it seemed as if he was going to focus on his athletic abilities.
Funny enough, he admits that he was never in any school plays but he did manage to catch the attention of Hollywood after landing a few television commercials and appearing on The Dating Game.
Eventually, he would become famous by playing in his breakthrough role on Magnum PI. He admitted that he looked 35 when he was only 25 but he only sounded like he was 15 years old. That led to some success in the crime drama series.
Over the years, Selleck has amassed a net worth of approximately $45 million. He also managed to perform many of his own stunts, which has caused him to have back problems. He said:
“When you do stunts in movies—I do a lot of them—you’re taking a risk, but you’re also sitting around a lot. So you might do a fight scene, and then you sit in your chair, and it’s not like you have a personal trainer saying, “Okay, we’re ready to go, but Tom needs ten minutes of stretching and warm-up.”
“And I think the price,” he added, “I see it with peers, I talk to them sometimes. You just see the price of all those stunts. They weren’t that hard, but I think it’s the stop-and-go of all that stuff.”
He also doesn’t enjoy going to the gym but he is trying to work out on the family ranch in Ventura, California.
He may be struggling with his health but at this point, we are hoping that he still has a few good seasons in him. We look forward to seeing more of Tom Selleck on Blue Bloods.
