Back in 1994, Patrick Swayzee and his wife of 34 years, Lisa Niemi, put on their first televised dance performance at the World Music Awards. The couple was paying tribute to the Grammy Award-winning singer Whitney Houston. And while this performance is over 25 years old, its beauty, passion, and grace are still incredible to witness. Swayze and his wife first met while she was taking lessons from his mother at her dance studio. Lisa recalled, “The first time Buddy and I danced together was at a school exhibition. We walked out on stage… I looked in his eyes; it was like everything came alive.”
As you can see from their spellbinding performance, their love for each other since then was simply undeniable. The talented couple enjoyed 34 years of blissful marriage until tragically on September 14, 2009, Swayzee lost his battle with pancreatic cancer. However, that night the two soul mates were celebrating life, not just that of Houston, but all life in all of its glory. Many people know Swayzee for his tremendous acting talent, but he was also an excellent dancer as well as an outstanding singer. In his most popular movie, the 1987 classic “Dirty Dancing,” Swayzee even sang a love ballad that would appear on the movie’s soundtrack, titled “She’s Like The Wind.” The song was dedicated to Lisa, the love of his life.
