JOLIET — If Saturday night marked the final concert on stage together for Dan Aykroyd and Jim Belushi as the legendary Blues Brothers, the Hollywood giants went out with a bang, gracing around 5,000 fans with an electrifying performance behind the limestone walls of the world famous Old Joliet Prison. This was the place where Aykroyd and Belushi’s late brother John starred as Joliet Jake and Elwood Blues, the legendary Blues Brothers.

Saturday night’s concert featured another headliner on the stage, Bones Malone. Ronnie Baker Brooks and Curtis Salgado were also invited on the stage to perform during The Blues Brothers concert that began around 9:30 p.m. and ended at 11 p.m.

People from 11 different countries bought tickets and traveled to Joliet for Saturday night’s historic event.

Joliet Patch covered the entire event, producing a total of 11 different Facebook Live videos, including an interview with Aykroyd and Belushi on Saturday afternoon.

Last year’s Blues Brothers Con. was canceled because of the Hollywood workers strike, so Saturday marked the first time in two years for Aykroyd and Belushi to return to Joliet.

Joliet Patch’s editor asked them what it was like performing in 2022 as The Blues Brothers.

“Well, beautiful evening, everything was lit well and the temperature was great. We danced our asses off.”

“Tonight, what makes it spectacular is the closing of the chapter in the Blues Brothers history because we just lost Judy,” Aykroyd told Joliet Patch. “Judy Jacklin, who married John (Belushi). There would be no Blues Brothers as we know it, without for her creative input, she was a full participant in everything that was done, designing uniforms, writing the book, the history book about the Blues Brothers.

“So she was our true Blues sister, so tonight this concert, in our minds, is a tribute to her. It closes off a chapter, I think, for a lot of us … I’m sorry that she’s not here. She intended to be here, but she held on for four years battling that, medical issues.”

“But Luke is here, her son, and he’s going to do a tribute,” Jim Belushi pointed out.

“So, we celebrate her in the sky tonight, and she’ll be felt all over,” Aykroyd added.
