It seems estrangement from the royal family comes with some brutal realities and nicknames.

According to reports, Prince Harry and Prince Andrew have been branded “The Dukes of Hazzard” by the Buckingham Palace staff.

The unflattering moniker, which is a reference to the 1980s comedy series of the same name, was shared by royal correspondent Kate Mansey during an appearance on The Royals With Roya and Kate podcast.

“I did a kind of wrap-up in the Times magazine at the end of last year in which a couple of people actually mentioned [Andrew] and Harry to me as being known as the Dukes of Hazzard,” Mansey said, cited by the Express. “As the two difficult dukes who are problems for the king, but perhaps Andrew more so.”

The shared nickname underscores the challenges both Harry and Andrew present to the monarchy, in vastly different ways.

The 40-year-old famously stepped back from royal duties in 2020, moving to the United States with his wife, Meghan Markle. His decision sparked endless headlines, especially after the controversial Oprah interview and memoir titled Spare.

Andrew, on the other hand, was removed from his duties after he was linked to the late disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. Following a disastrous Newsnight interview in 2019, the fallout included the loss of his HRH title, military honors, and royal patronages. Andrew has denied all the claims against him.

The 64-year-old’s royal troubles didn’t stop there as in January 2022, the late Queen Elizabeth II stripped him of many of his remaining privileges.

In addition to this, he’s faced controversies such as reportedly using the fake name “Andrew Inverness” to register a company in 2003. Documents show he partnered with sports tycoon Johan Eliasch to set up Naples Gold Limited, listing himself as a “consultant” on official forms, per The New York Post.

According to the outlet, the anti-monarchy group Republic has since accused him of falsifying documents, filing an official complaint to Scotland Yard, which is investigating the matter.

Adding to his problems, the financial firm managing Andrew’s private investments recently shut down, and he found himself excluded from a royal dinner at Windsor Castle – despite living nearby at the Royal Lodge.

The duke has also avoided eviction from the Royal Lodge after reportedly securing a mysterious financial backer to cover his expenses. This has only deepened tensions with King Charles, who has reportedly pushed for Andrew to relocate.

For Harry, his departure from the monarchy has fueled family drama, while Andrew’s series of scandals has tarnished his image and put the institution under scrutiny.

One thing is clear: both dukes have a knack for stirring up headlines.
