Billionaire OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is sued by sister for alleged sexual abuse

Sam Altman, the billionaire CEO who brought us OpenAI, has been sued by his sister for alleged sexual abuse.

The allegations were filed in a lawsuit in the U.S. Eastern District Court of Missouri on Monday.

In the complaint, Ann Altman alleges that the abuse occurred over a nine-year period, starting in 1997 when she was three years old and Sam Altman was 12, per the Hollywood Reporter.

The alleged incidents reportedly took place at the family’s home in Clayton, Missouri, and include claims of forced sexual assault, molestation, sodomy, and battery.

Altman has categorically denied the accusations.

In a statement posted Wednesday on his X account (formerly Twitter), he described the claims as “utterly untrue” and suggested that his sister’s mental health challenges have influenced her allegations.

The statement, issued jointly by Altman, his mother, and his two brothers, also accused Ann Altman of repeatedly seeking financial compensation from the family despite their financial support.

“All of these claims are utterly untrue,” the statement reads. “This situation causes immense pain to our entire family. It is especially gut-wrenching when she refuses conventional treatment and lashes out at family members who are genuinely trying to help.”

Ann Altman’s attorney, Ryan Mahoney told The Wall Street Journal that his client has suffered from trauma and rejected claims that her mental health played a role in the allegations. “There is no evidence that her own mental health has contributed to her allegations,” Mahoney said.

The lawsuit seeks damages exceeding $75,000 and calls for a jury trial. According to the filing, Ann Altman cites expenses related to medical and mental health treatment for her injuries, as well as lost wages and benefits.

In a subsequent post on X, Altman shared details from a letter sent to his attorney by Mahoney.

The letter reportedly outlined how Missouri law could allow punitive damages in the case, potentially requiring Altman’s net worth to be disclosed.

Altman speculated that his net worth could reach approximately $1 billion within two years, the timeframe he expects the case to take.
