If you’ve ever wrapped your luggage in plastic as you head off on vacation, then you might want to hear what a baggage handler has to say.
Going on vacation is always really exciting, because who doesn’t love a little break from work and regular life?
But there are certain elements that do come with a bit of stress, and most of them happen at the airport.

Well, some people are so worried about theft and damage, that they wrap their suitcases up in plastic.
But this could be a bad idea.
TikTok user Adrian, a baggage handler who posts under the handle @teh_deagz, warns that wrapping luggage in plastic might cause more harm than good.
In a video posted on TikTok, Adrian showcases a suitcase tightly wrapped in plastic being diverted down a separate ramp.
Overlaid text in the video reads: “Dear travelers,” suggesting that such bags are prone to getting stuck in the airport’s handling systems.
Other things that are likely to come off of the conveyor belt are bags with rubberized textures, bags with tags not put on properly, and baby strollers that aren’t stored correctly.
It also goes without saying that perishable items will raise a few eyebrows.
Adrian’s video sparked debate among travelers, with many defending their choice to use plastic wrapping.
“I wrap mine because the bags are handled so roughly they get damaged,” one commenter wrote.
Another added: “After seeing how you guys kick and treat the cases I will be wrapping them even more.”
A third traveler shared their frustration: “After my last flights I’ll be plastic wrapping my suitcases. The cases were brand new but the workers destroyed them, prob. by throwing them around…”
While passengers may feel that wrapping their suitcases offers protection, experts argue otherwise.

According to Travel & Leisure, plastic wrapping provides little benefit to justify the extra expense.
Instead, the outlet recommends investing in a durable suitcase equipped with a TSA-approved lock for better protection.
And let’s be honest, wrapping it in plastic is all fun and games until it comes to opening the thing when you get to your destination.
Best to just invest in a sturdy case and maybe stick a tracking device in there if you’re concerned.
