Harry was shocked when medical tests revealed that the twin boys he had raised as his sons weren’t biologically his. Furious, he went home to confront his wife, only to uncover a truth that would shatter their family.
Harry smiled as he watched his boys laughing in the pediatrician’s office. “Dr. Dennison,” Harry stood up nervously as the doctor entered.
“Mr. Campbell. Please sit,” the doctor shook Harry’s hand and sat across from him. “I actually need to talk to you in private, Mr. Campbell. The boys can wait outside.”
Harry’s heart raced, unsure if the news was bad. The twins were healthy, except for Josh, who had anemia, and Dr. Dennison had asked Harry to get a blood test. Fortunately, Andrew was healthy.
“So, are we clear on the next steps?” Harry asked, still anxious.
“Calm down, Mr. Campbell,” Dr. Dennison said. “Josh’s condition is manageable. We’ll start him on supplements. But I need to discuss something else.”
Harry sighed in relief. “Is there an issue with Josh?”
“Not at all,” Dr. Dennison said, “But I’ve noticed something unusual. Did you adopt the boys, Mr. Campbell?”
Harry’s blood ran cold. “What do you mean?”
“Your blood type is incompatible with theirs,” Dr. Dennison explained. “Both your twins have blood type A, and you and your wife are both type B.”
“What… But this doesn’t make sense,” Harry muttered, stunned.
“I ran a DNA test with your samples, just to be sure,” the doctor continued. “And there’s more.” He pushed a couple of documents toward Harry.
Harry grabbed the papers and read the medical terms that made no sense to him, but the words “half-siblings” jumped out.
“Mr. Campbell,” Dr. Dennison said softly, “Andrew and Josh are technically your half-siblings, not your sons.”
Harry couldn’t believe it. The boys he’d raised for 12 years weren’t his. They must be his father’s children, but how? Nancy, his wife, was already pregnant when he introduced her to his parents.
At home, Harry stayed in the car for a while, trying to calm himself. He could hear the boys shouting, “Grandpa! We missed you!” His fists clenched.
He finally walked into the house, forcing a smile. “What are you doing here, Dad?” he asked stiffly.
His father didn’t respond. Harry was seething with anger. “Boys, weren’t you going to Bobby’s house for game night?” he asked, his tone controlled.
“Right, Daddy! Andrew, let’s go!” the boys said, excited. As they left, Harry lost his temper. “Did you sleep with my father, Nancy?” he yelled at his wife.
Nancy turned pale.
“Son, look, it’s not what you think,” his father started, but Harry wasn’t listening.
“DNA doesn’t lie, Nancy! I want the truth!” Harry shouted.
Nancy avoided his gaze. “I understand why Harry is angry,” she thought as she recalled the night everything changed.
Years ago, Nancy had been enjoying herself in Las Vegas when she met Robert, Harry’s father. They shared a flirtatious exchange at the bar and ended up spending the night together.
Nancy thought it would just be a one-time fling, but a few weeks later, she found out she was pregnant. Unsure what to do, she confided in her friend Anna.
“You’re having the baby alone? Can’t you find that Vegas guy?” Anna asked.
But Nancy never contacted Robert. She was overwhelmed, and Anna suggested she sleep with Harry, who she had just met.
Nancy hesitated but then decided to take that path for the sake of her unborn child, hoping to give her baby a father.
